Biography
Pinja Juhola is a Helsinki-based lighting designer with a background in photography. In addition to working actively in the performing arts field, she is also highly interested in both exhibition and architectural lighting, as well as light art.
In her designs, Juhola pays close attention to accessibility, detail, and the dramaturgy and character of light. Interested in symbolism and the stories it carries, one of her passions lies in exploring different cultures and researching how light appears in various forms as part of cultural history.
During her bachelor’s studies, Juhola researched how light was perceived in ancient Egypt. Continuing this theme of combining lighting design with cultural research, she wrote her Master’s thesis on how light appears in Korean culture.
Professional dream
Juhola aims to continue her research on light as a cultural phenomenon and to integrate this knowledge into her practice as a lighting designer. She is also halfway packed, passport ready, and eager for new adventures wherever her career might take her.
